Ang Panday

A meteor crashes into the desert of Sto. Sepulcro. Flavio, the panday of the community, forges a dagger and a churchbell from the remains of the meteor. He uses the dagger to fight off the Sombra Oscura, the minions of evil, who constantly attacks the town. By some mystical power, the dagger of Panday transforms into a great sword every time he wields it in defense of the people of Sto. Sepulcro.

Ang Panday: Ordinarily Appealing

NOTE: This article was written by the newest member of the Ang Panday Blog editorial team. Please welcome Romzkee! :)
-------------------------------------------
A fight for love...
A battle between good and evil...
A lovestory of two people from different social classes...
A fantaserye of swords and warriors...

Nothing new. Simply ordinary. But what makes it click?

Now that the country is being plagued by a lot of gray areas, from a doubted presidential leader, to the unsolved police rub out case, to the continous surge and fluctuation of oil prices, up to the seemingly dim future of the Filipinos, everything makes us think that the bad is more powerful than the good.

Here goes ABS-CBN offering the Panday story to the multitude of TV viewers who, would most likely succumb to the idea that the good can still triumph over the evil. That's the perfect sineserye strategy. That makes it click.

Well, of course some will say that it's the cinematic effects (which I find really swell!), or the romance between Heart and Echo. As evidenced by the number of successful telenovelas that warmed our hearts because of the love team, we are truly a people who suck on love. You can trace this back all the way from the Rico-Claudine era. The romance is definitely a factor, no matter how predictable the plot is (rich girl meets the poor “kargador” boy).

But I think what makes it most appealing to the masses is the portrayal of how a poor fellow can suddenly become an-all-time hero, a redeemer of peace. It is not really surprising. There have been a lot of tagalog films that used that kind of box-office ingredient, and Filipinos have continously patronized these movies.

What can we get from this observation?

That despite all the mishaps that we endure as a people, Filipinos still remain hopeful that goodness, justice, and peace can be redeemed in our land someday. You might say I'm getting quite overboard, that actually the Alamat Ng Panday is just some sort of time-out-from-the-world-entertainment thing. But that's exactly the point. We choose it as our “entertainment”. According to the theory of selective listening (in this case, viewing), we put our attention only to those which are in line with our own values and principles. That makes sense. Panday viewers, watch the program because they find signifigance with the value it teaches – the good will always win despite the odds. That gives us hope.

And that makes the ordinary story of Panday, very appealing.

Pero i like gma for coming up w/ their theme songs... suited tlga sa show. but anway and2 tau sa panday blog... but i think im free to say this... kaya goodluck nalang sa PANDAY... lousy. wag nyong dalhin ang set nyo sa city... di bagay kay pandy... onli sa countryside suited... ok

so where is Panday now? in the dungheap! why does abs have to pull it out prematurely? for reformatting. kasi walang gustong mag-advertise. ikaw ba naman ang magka-istorya na puro halimaw lang ang kalaban. linear plot, twisted narrative. funny graphics. poor acting. these are what make it die a sudden death.

I suggest the whole team go through a deep analysis of what is going wrong.

that is why abs capitalizes on Big Brother, the only show that rates high. But, sigh, it has ended.

sinira ng abs ang Panday. I grew up loving that series but abs-cbn's unbridled capitalism caused its creativity to shrink to zero.

sorry Gabby Lopez but you have to hear this.

and +princess+, wag kang pikon! it shows your breeding and education.

we all want to make our telenovelas world class, if you don't want our suggestions fine. go and watch kampanerang kuba or vietnam rose till you puke.

i wrote a novel about a kapampangan nobelman in 1580's. who travelled around the world... got involved on Britains expedition of the new world. Then had secret agreement with Queen Elizabeth I. Forging an Alliance of Maharlikas, Grait Britain, Japan, North African states, and the Acapulco against the kingdom of Spain. He wrote a letter "The Propaganda" calling all the former kingdoms to form a Confederation of Maharlikas.
The Revolt started 1586, But the alliance collapsed that only the northern parts of Luzon was Liberated. His liberation of each bayan was symbolized by the striking of his own made sword into a church bell. He was then known as the Blacksmith or Ang Panday. Participating nations of the Alliance had suspicions against each other then so the alliance with the madya-as in panay and the muslim mindanao collapsed. The Spanish troops then crushed the Liberators up to the mountains. The promised support of the British Empire never sufficed and so the Liberation of the Maharlikas dimmed. The last final attempt of the Blacksmith was to lead the Revolt of the Igorots in 1601. The rebellion went on until 1603 when Queen Elizabeth died and new treaties were made between the two Kings of Spain and Britain.

Got it Copyrighted but not Published.. its my life's goal. Eventhough i feel like publishers are laughing at it. Im planning to we write the whole novel professionally maybe on my retirement.
